چکیده

Abstract: The main difficulty in the overall process of optimal assembly plan generation is the great number of different ways to assemble a product (typically thousands of solutions). This problem confines the application of most existing automated planning methods to products composed of only a limited number of components. The presented method of assembly plan generation belongs to the approach called "disassembly" and is founded on a new representation of the assembly process, with introduction of a new concept, the equivalence of binary trees. This representation allows to generate the minimal list of all nonredundant (really different) assembly plans. Plan generation is directed by assembly operation constraints and plan-level performance criteria. The method was tested for various assembly applications and compared to other generation approaches. Results show a great reduction in the combinatorial explosion of the number of plans. Therefore, this simplifying approach of assembly sequence modeling allows to handle more complex products with a large number of parts. © 2008 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC. Author

A priori checking inconsistencies among strategic constraints for assembly plan generation

This paper is related to the field of assembly plan generation. It describes a new approach to a priori check the consistency of an assembly strategy that is given by the assembly system designers before running an assembly plan generation algorithm. The aim of this work is to improve the assembly plan designer's efficiency by reducing the research space while proving the existence of acceptabl...

On the automatic generation of assembly plans

This paper describes the XAP/1 assembly planning system. It begins by comparing the version of the assembly planning problem addressed by the XAP/1 system to other systems in terms of the range of operations allowed in plans, the degree of detail in which plans are described, the type of input data required, and the degree of optimization done on plans. The XAP/1 system is strongly oriented tow...

Optimization of Partial-Order Plans via MaxSAT

Partial-order plans (POPs) are attractive because of their least commitment nature, providing enhanced plan flexibility at execution time relative to sequential plans. Despite the appeal of POPs, most of the recent research on automated plan generation has focused on sequential plans. In this paper we examine the task of POP generation by relaxing or modifying the action orderings of a sequenti...
